Garnier, the winemaker half of a dynamic duo – His brother Xavier tends these precious vines
and while these two are unbelievably not twins they produce wines of balance and harmony Chablis is centuries of winemaking tradition,
where the viticulture is in sync with nature Now Jerome what do you have to battle with? Koka
from Georgia i know you have five grapes, me i Have only one Chardonnay from Chablis – let’s battle
So will the French get to say bye bye to Georgia? Let’s see, but before that let’s get to
know Jerome and Xavier on their ”WineyPeople” profile on our YouTube channel
I love it when family works so well together The judging will be from Georgian capital
Tbilisi a place any self-respecting oenphile Must visit – then in Part 2 from the one
and only the big daddy of the wine world Paris! Six valuable votes from each country
and, of course, all judging is 100% blind What will the French make of the Georgian
wine and vice versa? So what has Koka selected?
I chose Natella a white dry wine a Natella
2017 for the ”Battle” This is a blend of five Georgian varieties and this is a unique
blend never done before by anyone else So here we go on the Georgian tongue twisting
indigenous varietals – Kisi, Mtsvane, Khikhvi, Tetra and Tsolikauri – Nice work so what does
Jerome bring to the ”Battle”? We are putting to The ”Battle” this Chablis Crue vintage 2015 – Jerome and Xavier have entered A Premier Crue and not their Grand Crue and this may
be a tactical mistake, so let the judging begin Part one first to Georgia – Tbilisi dynamic,
youth infused capital of the Caucasus What will they make of chablis style or will
they prefer their local hero blend? Let’s meet The six judges who are all wine lovers and a

and Anthony from Khetsuriani and Riedel Georgia For the beautiful glasses to showcase the wines at
their best So here’s the battle card – the Natella 2017 A skilful blend of five Georgian varietals
versus the singular purity of 100% Chardonnay Chablis and Domaine Garnier & Fils
Winemaker for Tsinandali Estate David Maisuradze All grapes grown and the wine made in the Kakheti
region Jerome makes the wine, Xavier is the Viticulturalist – the region you guessed it Chablis
The ”Nominator” – love that term – Koka The opponent Jerome The category ”Great Whites” Indeed they are
first let’s see what these gorgeous Georgians Think about their own wine the Natella ….A lot
of citruses here it should be more from like Mountainous area more like full bodied acidic but
it’s well balanced with flavor as well it’s very Good and easy going with a normal finish we’ll
taste it sweet wine i like it flowers are like a Citrus taste is better than aromas…. OK,
not surprisingly they like local wine but What about the Chablis…. Totally different also
tasty It’s more harmony than this Interesting in Mode quite fresh good good level of acidity This
one is dry also it’s bitter taste at the end Quite Acidic It’s a very light wine for like hot summer
evenings I think this one is more interesting But it needs to open a little bit so clearly
some support for the Chablis….And now the votes And the winner is this one… i prefer this one
because it’s more intense in nose and it is More fruity…. one vote a piece yes
as suspected this will be close
Uh i think this one is more interesting for
me…. this one um i think it has a richer palette And well balanced – 2-all…nice!
Let’s see what Tornike says I think it’s better than this one i like
both, but for me this is this is better This is my go-to wine ……so 4-2 for georgia
The locals of Tbilisi supported Koka’s Wine… go Anna! But not all went for Koka’s wine
interestingly, the expert girls Nia and Tamuka voted For the Chablis whilst the boys all for Georgia
We are the winners! Georgian wine is better and The best wine in Europe… So it’s very close and all
will be decided by the French in Paris. Surely they Will vote for Chablis? French people love French
wine – stay tuned for very surprising part two You
